Just breathe

I’m on my way into work,

and I’m about to hand in my resignation.

It’s one of those conversations most people have to face at some point ... and no one really enjoys it. Not the one delivering the news, not the one receiving it. Both sides would probably rather be anywhere else.

I’ve read plenty about how to do it.

How to structure difficult conversations,

how to deliver bad news,

what techniques to use.

There’s no shortage of advice out there.

But in the end, it always comes down to this: finding the way that feels right for you.

Because not every method fits. You can’t force yourself into someone else’s script. The fact that you even looked up how to approach it already says enough. It means you care, you want to do it right, you’re trying to prepare.

If I can add anything to the mountain of articles that already exist, it’s this: encouragement.

By the time you’re walking into that office, you’ve probably prepared as much as you can.

You’ve rehearsed it in your head more times than you can count.

Everything you’ve done up to now has led you to this point.

And if there’s something you didn’t prepare?

There’s probably a reason for that too.

So when the moment comes? Breathe.

Take a couple of breaths and let your body catch up with what your mind already knows.

Trust yourself.

Trust that you’ve grown into the kind of person who can handle this, even if it’s messy. And if it doesn’t go the way you hoped? That’s not the end. It just means you’ll know how to approach it differently next time.

So my only real advice, the one thing I hold onto right now, is simple:

Trust yourself. Remain calm. And breathe.
